The objective of this workshop is to provide examples of license records developed at Oregon Health & Science University Library and Washington State University Libraries that can be modified to local library conditions.

Topics will include general licensing information such as location of terms of use on licenses, publisher’s websites, subscription agent info, etc and storage of license documents on eRes. Definition of a few resources record fields and all license record fixed and variable fields possibilities will be reviewed. Examples of templates for signed licenses, open access and terms of use journals will be distributed and workflow issues discussed. Workshop on Web OPAC customization (Bob Duncan) - Successful WebPAC customizers are successful because they understand Innovative's customization framework and the fundamental skills required to take advantage of that framework. This three hour workshop will help attendees develop a solid understanding of the opportunities for customizing the WebPAC. The first half will concentrate on understanding all the pieces that make up the framework; the remainder will be devoted to understanding the fundamentals of CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), within the context of styling the WebPAC. Intended for beginners through intermediate users; familiarity with HTML code helpful, but not required.

  • webpub.def - The Untold Story - Everything you always wanted to know about the webpub.def file, the piece of the WebPAC customization arsenal that determines what data from your catalog records is presented to WebPAC users. This session applies to WebPAC Pro and Classic on all recent releases, and will be accessible to all audiences. Basic understanding of MARC fields helpful. (Bob Duncan)
  • Changes in Technical Services Workflows - Staff from the Oregon State Library and Willamette University will begin the session with examples of recent workflow changes in Technical Services at their respective libraries brought about by changes in funding, technology, staffing, etc. Then we will open up the discussion and invite other to share their questions, problems, and solutions. (Carol Drost, TBD)
  • Open Access journals and WebBridge - Open access journals are free resources that can be linked to using WebBridge. The presenters use WebBridge click-through statistics to try to answer the following questions: Are the journals indexed by databases the library subscribes to? Are they getting used? PubMed and Google Scholar as origins are also examined. (Doris Munson, Justin Otto)
  • Access to Electronic Articles: What Goes Wrong, and How Often? - In this program, we will present findings from an availability study of electronic articles conducted at OHSU in late 2008. We tested access to full text for 200 articles in biomedicine, both via our III catalog and our WebBridge link resolver, to identify barriers to access. How often can users successfully retrieve electronic full text? When they can't, what stops them? We tracked the frequency and nature of access problems, so we could focus scarce library resources on the issues that would provide the greatest benefit for users.(Janet Crum, Carla Pealer)
